I need a cable to connect a mini dv camcorder equipped with a firewire output port to an old laptop so that I could transfer mini dv tapes to digital thumb drives. The reasons being that the drives would far preserve the quality of the vids as opposed to keeping them on tape indefinitely. The second reason was that the drives would be more useful when viewing the videos, ie, they could be viewed on any laptop, desk computer, smart TV, or any device that was intended to display digital video.The cable appears sturdy enough to take some abuse, however the terminals will be a tight fit so you’ll need to carefully insert them into the ports. Using WinDV, free video capture software, I was able to transfer all those digital tapes to digital files. The software produces digital clips which can then be stitched together using Windows moviemaker or any capable video editing software.
