25ft. FireWire IEEE 1394 / i.Link 6Pin to 6Pin Black Cable
$ 13.66
I use this cable between my PC workstation and an old Nikon Coolscan 4000 film scanner that I use to digitize my old film/slides. After redoing my home office, I needed an ~18 foot cable to go between them. Falsely limiting myself to the 15 ft spec limit for firewire cables, I tried a repeater cable first. My PC card didn’t provide enough power for it, and I didn’t want to route a new cable inside the PC from the power supply to the card to add more power. And I didn’t want to right off spend $100 for a firewire hub to extend the distance.Then I read about why the original 15 foot limitation doesn’t apply anymore for Firewire. The spec was written in the late 1980’s when cable technology usable in consumer-priced cables was lower. Three decades later, much better cables are available that allow firewire to reach 30 feet now.And this cable proves that. It is an extremely well built cable (former aerospace engineer here) with ferrite beads at each end. It’s a thicker cable, so don’t expect to make any sharp corners with it. FYI, at least as of the version I got, the cable is actually silver like the picture, not black as the product title states.So far, it has been working perfectly to get high resolution scans from the Nikon to my PC.
