I got this for a very particular use. As an amateur chemist, I sometimes perform experiments which result in exothermic reactions, such as making a nitration solution of sulfuric and nitric acid. As any chemist, amateur or professional, will tell you, keeping the temperature down in these reactions is a large key to the progress, safety, and outcome, as reactions that get too hot will cause your reactants to break down and could go into “thermal runaway” where you literally get the wonderful gift of a flask full of happily boiling acid. You…don’t want to be around boiling acid. I promise. One key to avoiding this is to begin the entire process with already chilled reagents. Now, here’s a really smart piece of advice. Don’t chill dangerous acids in your refrigerator, folks. Just…don’t do that. Please. Invest a few dollars in something like THIS, which will allow you to cool your reagents to a nice, cold temperature in a totally safe environment away from living spaces…and, it’s made of what seems to be a polypropylene plastic, which is very resistant to strong acids, especially at low temperatures (but not as much at high temperatures). Which is to say, this is a nice, safe way to chill your reagents that isn’t in your refrigerator. I just put my bottles in here the night before, and the next day I know they’ll both be at temperature. Now, why the star off, if it’s so great? And it is great…it’s made very, very well…the reason I took a star off is because the seller has conflicting information in the listing, neither of which being accurate. In one place, they list power consumption at 40 watts, in another place, at 45 watts. So, which is it? NEITHER. Officially and for the record, the power supply included with this is rated at 14.5v / 4.1 A out, or 59.45 watts. So, in all practical terms, 60 watts. 60 watts is a lot more than 45 watts and it’s certainly more than 40 watts. Accuracy in listings always matters, especially power. Someone might want to run this off a few solar panels, for instance, and running something that draws 40 watts is a LOT different than 60 watts when you’re talking solar power. You need to account for every watt. So, in your calculations, folks who plan to use this with solar, plan for 60 watts, and you should be ok.Beyond that, I have no complaints. Hopefully, the seller will correct the listing to read actual power consumption throughout the listing. If they do, I may come back and up this to 5 stars. Because it’s a very nice little cooler, and I highly recommend it. Even if you plan on just putting something boring in it…like beer. Or bologna. Have fun and stay safe! Always remember proper PPE!
