IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Concept & History With the introduction of the reference IW388102 the Schaffhausen-based manufacturer responded to the desire of many collectors for a more compact version of the classic pilot's watch. While previous iterations often featured case diameters of 43 mm or more, this model marks a return to more wearable proportions without diluting the brand's instrumental DNA. A technical focus during development was on the integration of the EasX-CHANGE system, which enables tool-free strap changes and thus increases versatility in everyday life. The watch positions itself not only as an instrument for aviation professionals, but also as a technical chronograph for everyday use. Caliber & Technology Inside, the IWC-manufactured caliber 69385, a robust chronograph movement with classic column wheel control. This design ensures precise switching of the stop functions and a defined pressure point for the pushers. The movement operates with a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offers a power reserve of 46 hours. A double-sided winding click system efficiently supplies the energy store. The sapphire crystal back provides a detailed view of the movement's finish, including the perlage on the plate and Côtes de Genève on the bridges and rotor. Case & Material The housing made of Stainless steel measures in diameter 41 mm at a height of 14.5 mm. The surfaces are predominantly satin-finished, which minimizes reflections and underlines the instrumental character, while polished bevels on the horns and the bezel add visual accents. The case is designed for a water resistance of 10 bar which is an above-average value for pilot's watches in this category. The solid link bracelet made of Stainless steel has a fine adjustment in the clasp that allows the strap length to be adjusted without tools. Aesthetics & Readability The dial is presented in a deep blue with a fine sunray finish, which creates varying nuances depending on the incidence of light. The arrangement of the totalizers at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock ensures balanced symmetry. The hands and indices are generously coated with luminous material to ensure legibility even in poor lighting conditions. The rehaut-like inner ring with the fine minute track and the day-date window positioned at 3 o'clock complete the functional design.
