IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar IW502218 Concept & Heritage The IW502218 embodies IWC Schaffhausen's technical masterpiece in the complication watch. Between 2006 and 2010 This model is based on Kurt Klaus' pioneering perpetual calendar module, which was first used in the Da Vinci in 1985 and adapted for the Portugieser. The reference combines the classic Portugieser design with the highest level of horological complexity. Caliber & Technology The manufacture caliber 51613 uses the highly efficient Pellaton winding system, which utilizes rotor movements in both directions. With a power reserve of 168 hours it is one of the most durable movements of its generation. The perpetual calendar requires no manual correction until the year 2499. The moon phase display at 12 o'clock only deviates by one day after 577.5 years. The movement displays classic finishing with Côtes de Genève and perlage. Case & Material The 42.3 mm measuring housing made of 18 carat white gold gives the watch a noble presence without exaggerated dimensions. Slim bezels and elegant lugs emphasize the classic Portugieser silhouette. The sapphire crystal back provides a view of the artistic movement architecture. Despite 3 ATM water resistance, the watch remains primarily designed for formal use. Aesthetics & Readability The ardoise-The anthracite gray dial offers remarkable clarity despite the abundance of information. Applied Arabic numerals and slim white gold leaf hands guarantee excellent legibility. The date display with integrated power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock, day of the week at 9 o'clock, month and year at 6 o'clock and the central moon phase form a harmonious ensemble.
